HTC S740 Fully QWERTY Slider Cell Phone[ HTC Touch Diamond Inspired iPhone Killer ]

HTC have taken the wraps off what has to be one of the most deliciously gorgeous cell phones we’ve come across – and one which, we might add, certainly in our opinion, makes the iPhone look positively dull – in the form of the new, uber sexy HTC S740.
Boasting a design overtly inspired by HTC’s equally desirable
Touch Diamond, the HTC S740, which is billed as ‘smartphone communication beyond the practical’ takes the form of a candy bar handset with sliding QWERTY keyboard and features a 2.4” QVGA screen, a Qualcomm MSM7225 processor running at 528MHz running Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard and, in Europe at least, offers HSDPA/WCDMA 900/2100 MHz connectivity allowing for internet browsing at speeds of up to an impressive 7.2 Mbps.

HTC S740 Key Features:

  • Networks: WCDMA/HSDPA: 900/2100 MHz for EU and Asia
  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
  • Maximum speed: UL = 384 kbps; DL = 3.6/7.2 Mbps
  • Operating system: Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard
  • Display: 2.4-inch QVGA screen
  • Camera: 3.2 megapixel with fixed focus
  • Internal memory: 256 MB flash; 256 MB RAM
  • Memory card: microSD
  • WLAN: 802.11b/g
  • Bluetooth: 2.0 with EDR
  • GPS: GPS/AGPS
  • Interface: HTC ExtUSB (mini-USB and audio jack in one; USB 2.0 High-Speed)
  • Battery: 1000 mAh
  • Talk time: WCDMA: Up to 320 minutes / GSM: Up to 380 minutes
  • Standby time: WCDMA: Up to 400 hours / GSM: Up to 280 hours
  • Special features: Sliding QWERTY keyboard, FM radio, Google Maps, RSS Hub
  • Chipset: Qualcomm MSM7225, 528 MHz
  • Size: 116.3 x 43.4 x 16.3 mm
  • Weight: 140g with battery

Due to become available in Europe from next month at the time of writing HTC are yet to release pricing details concerning the HTC S740 but, personally, I fully intend to be one of the first in the queue when it hits the UK.

Nokia have announced that their 3G N96 smartphone, which comes with full 850MHz HSDPA support as well as integrated GPS and Wi-Fi, is set to become available in the US as Nokia continues to look for inroads into the highly lucrative US smartphone market.
Due to be made available as an unlocked device, the N96 comes with 2.8” display, 16GB of memory, a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss Optics (with camcorder function) though, in terms of the N96’s GPS functionality, in being supplied as an unlocked device the North American version of the N96 will only come with a three-month trial for Nokia Maps and a single N-Gage racing game and, thanks to carrier discounts not applying, the handset will retail for around a wallet thumping $895.
The North American (unlocked) edition of Nokia’s N96 is due to begin shipping this fall.

Is pink the new black as far as fashion is concerned? We suspect not, however, it is becoming increasingly apparent that pink gadgets obviously have enough of a consumer base to merit manufactures producing pink versions of just about every gadget these days - the latest addition to our pink gadgets collection being Sharps new SH903iTV Cell Phone.
The SH903iTV, which serves as both a cell phone and a highly portable TV viewing and recording unit, comes complete with a three inch 204×400 pixel resolution, 256000 colour swiveling widescreen super-V LCD display, an inbuilt 2-megapixel camera and MicroSD card support which can boost the SH903iTV’s capacity up to 2GB.
Sharp’s Pink SH903iTV cell phone will become commercially available from 3 August though, at the time of writing, we are unable to obtain pricing details.
